Mathematics

Mathematics at Woodhouse Primary School

The national Curriculum for Maths aims to ensure that all children:

Become fluent in the fundamentals of Mathematics.

Are able to reason mathematically.

Can solve problems by applying their mathematics.

Our aim of teaching mathematics at our school are to enure that all pupils become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately. We want all children to enjoy Mathematics and to experience success in the subject, with the ability to reason mathematically.

We are committed to developing children's curiosity about the subject, and love to see 'the penny dropping'. Our children also apply their mathematical knowledge to science and other subjects.

The expectation is that the majority of pupils will move through the programmes of study at broadly the same pace. They are taught to solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of problems with increasing sophistication.

We believe that maths is the foundation for understanding the world, and we want our children to know the purpose behind learning and to apply their knowledge to their everyday lives.
